Guide

LeatherDraft tool guide

What each tool does, how to use it, and what the fields in the properties panel mean — with live screenshots from the app itself, not mockups. An open guide, no login required, like the rest of the site up to the tester section.

All 19 topics are covered — the whole toolbar and the core selection operations (offset, mirror, grouping). Alignment, copy arrays, and attaching a stitch to its parent piece aren't written up yet — those will come as separate articles in upcoming updates.

Selection V Click to select an object, drag a box for several, drag to move. Pan Space Scroll the canvas with the mouse, just like in any graphics editor. Rectangle R A rectangular piece in one motion — fine-tune size and corner rounding in properties. Circle C A round piece or hole — drawn from the center, with an exact radius. Polyline L A free-form contour: corner or smooth nodes, open or closed. Arc A An arc from three points: start, end and bulge. Nodes N Precise editing of an existing contour — node by node, handle by handle. Stitch Line S Set the edge margin and spacing — the app works out the holes and their count. Punch P A single standalone hole marker — no stitch layout, and it can go anywhere, even inside an existing row of stitch holes. Hardware H Snaps, eyelets, Chicago screws, rivets — with hole diameter and attached to the piece. Trim X Trim the contour of any piece — polyline, rectangle or circle — back to the nearest intersections. A closed contour with a single intersection simply opens at that point. Text T A text label right on the pattern. Linear Dimension D A reference dimension line on the drawing — double-check yourself before printing. Ruler M Measure without touching the drawing: a segment's distance and angle, snapping to stitch holes. Find Center F The exact midpoint of a segment — accounting for its angle. Angle G A guide line at a set angle and length — typed in or drawn by eye. Offset A copy of a contour offset inward or outward — a lining, a seam allowance, a second layer. Mirror Ctrl+M A mirrored copy of the selection — matching pairs without redrawing. Group Several objects as one — selected, moved and hidden together.
